Dinner at The Irish Village
Today's Saint Patrick's Day celebrations have been greatly influenced by those that developed among the Irish diaspora, especially in North America. Until the late 20th century, Saint Patrick's Day was often a bigger celebration among the diaspora than it was in Ireland.
The most traditional and well known of all the Irish blessings is ‘May the road rise up’. It was written a very long time ago, and is often recited at weddings and special ceremonies and sometimes said as a prayer. It goes as follows:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
